Topic: Moving to this site and next get together Saturday, April 26, 2:30 pm

Topic type:

A little rundown on the move to this site.

Hi all,

I've hinted in the past that I had some plans for the Wellington Actors Practice site... and now I'm finally in a position to announce what's going on.

I've set up a new site here at http://actorspractice.org/ as a general resource for supporting actors and a specific section for Wellington at http://actorspractice.org/wellington_nz/.  It's based on software that I'm the main developer of at my day job, called Kete.  If you are curious about it, you can read more at http://kete.net.nz/.

You can post audition notices, upload images of performances, create a bio topic, etc.  It doesn't require registration to view, but does to add or edit items on the site.  For an example of a community site that uses Kete, checkout http://horowhenua.kete.net.nz/.

I would like to move all of our new discussions over to this site and have it be the home of the Wellington Actors Practice from here on out.  I'll keep the old site around for reference, but that's it.

Now, one little wrinkle is that this site, by design, doesn't use email notifications, it uses what is called RSS instead to alert people of changes or additions to the site.

If you don't know what the hell RSS is, you can find out by reading this topic:

http://kete.net.nz/help/topics/show/111

RSS is a pretty darn cool tool, actually, so check it out and subscribe to the site.

Since switching to the new site might be a bit daunting for some, I'm going to host the next WAP get together at my place as a session to introduce people to what you can do with it.

So next get together is Saturday April 26th, 2:30pm, 206 The Parade, Island Bay.  Bring a electronic copy of your actor's CV (if you want), digital photos of performances you have been in, ideas for the next play to read, etc.

I'll start a topic on the new site about this get together and you'll be able to comment there.

See you then,
Walter
